Product Designer ⋅ Systems Thinker ⋅ Dot Connector ⋅ Pattern Architect

Welcome to my little experiment.

I’ve always wanted a permanent home online, not a dreaded portfolio most designers hate maintaining, but a space for me to share my voice and for you to get to know me. The one that continuously evolves as I grow, but consistently gets pampered with my personality. This might look completely different next month. But that’s the whole purpose.

my career snapshot

→ my career snapshot (10 sec read)

Product Designer since 2011

Started career at a startup, followed by another—both as a founding designer, then to New Relic to Upwork to Lightstep to ServiceNow where I’m currently building platform-level AI experiences

Straightforward path to Design

Majored in industrial design at KAIST in Korea then moved to the US where I studied communication design and human-computer interaction at Carnegie Mellon University

→ my career snapshot (2 min read)

IMO, more fun to read than my resume

✽ High-fives

Honed my leadership skills as a lead designer in a triad, and fell in love with the power of great teamwork.

Helped shape our team's craft through design critiques and contributions to our design system.

Started to think hard about what I really want and the unique value I bring to a team.

Top feedback: Look beyond Figma to make your real impact. Help shape your team's process and culture.

※ Low-fives

Shipping “table stakes” features left me in my comfort zone, which led me to realize my true motivation came from solving strategic challenges.

Felt the team's friction firsthand when we worked without a shared priority or a clear understanding of the core problem.

✽ High-fives

Joined my first design team of MANY and fascinated by the multi-disciplinary nature of product development.

Became intrigued by data-informed hypotheses and decision-making and the marketplace intricacies.

Ran team workshops for brainstorming and alignment—nerve-wracking, yet incredibly fulfilling.

Top feedback: "Have a point of view" (read: don’t be a pushover). This pushed me way out of my comfort zone.

※ Low-fives

My project went upside down as the high-level strategy changed. Felt bummed, but also learned some things.

Felt lost when a project wasn’t going anywhere, because we couldn’t pinpoint the real problem and I didn’t speak up about it; it was a painful, but impactful learning opportunity.

✽ High-fives

Got my work visa, a seed planted for my career in the US.

Wore many design hats, working on everything from UI, IA, and user flows to logos and business cards.

Exposed to cross-functional collaboration with Product and Eng for the first time. It was eye-opening.

Was often proud of myself for being hard-working, reliable, and easy to work with (read: could be a pushover)

※ Low-fives

My professional growth felt stale:

Took a career gap after my first child was born, felt the pressure to stay sharp, and channeled that anxiety into a personal project.

As a SOLE designer at startups, had no role models to learn from and wasn't proactive enough to find mentors outside. A huge missed opportunity in hindsight!
